EABH Symposium for New Scholars
Publicado el 23-10-09.
March 17-18, 2010.
Zurich
The European Association for Banking and Financial History wishes to
initiate a series of symposia for new and younger scholars (within 5
years of PhD) in the fields of monetary and financial history. With
the very generous support of Swiss Re, the first of these symposia
will be held in Zurich, in March 2010. The organisers particularly
welcome papers relating to all aspects of insurance history, but those
working in related fields are also encouraged to apply. Papers on all
topics of insurance, banking, financial and monetary history will be
considered, but those working in the following areas will be
particularly welcome:
- the causes and consequences of crises - financial, economic or
natural - for insurance companies, banks, regulators etc.
- the emergence and development of insurance and other financial
markets and institutions
- the role of insurance or other forms of finance in fostering
economic/industrial growth
- financial innovation and technological innovation across the
range of financial institutions
- the role of supervision and regulation in shaping insurance,
financial and monetary markets and institutions.
The symposium will be held on 17-18 March 2010 at the Swiss Re
conference centre in Zurich. Local costs at the Swiss Re premises
(accommodation and food) will be met by the organisers, but travel
expenses will not. There may be some bursaries available to meet
costs of travel, on a competitive basis. Paper proposals should be
made in the form of a 500 word abstract by 31st October 2009.
Decisions will be announced by the end of November 2010, and the full
paper will be required by the end of January 2010, for distribution to
all attendees. In addition to the symposium, two of the papers will be
selected for presentation at the EABH conference in Brussels in May
2010.
Paper proposals should be sent to
